Program Description:

TURKS AND CAICOS SUMMER I: FUNDAMENTALS OF MARINE CONSERVATION


PROGRAM DETAILS

  • Term: Summer Session I
  • Credits: 4 semester-hour credits (8 credits if taken with Session II)
  • Prerequisites: No course prerequisites: 18 years of age
  • Application Deadline: Rolling admissions. Early applications encouraged
  • Financial Aid: All accepted students can apply for need-based scholarships, grants, and loans


OVERVIEW

The spectacular reefs and turquoise waters of South Caicos serve as laboratories for field lectures and underwater expeditions in this summer session. Snorkel and/or dive among these incredible marine ecosystems, learn about the environmental issues and policies affecting them, and gain the skills needed to conduct research in collaboration with members of the community.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT:
  • Collect data on the distribution, size, age, and structure of the queen conch, a species critical to the local economy and a national symbol of the islands.
